Smurfs

Something to lighten up, let's watch an episode of Smurfs via YouTube.

The state of contemporary civilisation

This is a sample of the "new" democracy of Iraq that the Texan politician George W. Bush has worked a lot for it. Is Texas slightly more civilised or not?

Jehova's witness imagery

My only connection to religions is their rich imagery. Ironically these days I found a Watchtower magazine in an airport lounge.

Apolis

The drawings of Eleni Kamma

Apolis is a show that has just finished at the Hellenic-American Union space in Athens . It is curated by artist Kostis Velonis. The theme is about citiless "situations" and exiled artistic practises- which I am very identified with. Among from the works of Nikos Alexiou (upcoming Venice Biennial Greek participation), Andreas Angelidakis, Dimitris Foutris, Alexis Akrithakis, I want to include some drawings of Eleni Kamma which I wanted to write from long time now. Her drawings are inspired by architectural plans, children's books and decorative tapestry composed by baroque structures.

Do you remember "R e m e m b e r "?

Love This Logo

I should not stick so much in the eighties but I cannot leave unmentioned about my 2006 fashion store re-discovery. In the Athens of the 80's punks and rock fans used to buy their clothes from Remember. I still remember my mom's nod of disapproval when I bought my first Cure pins in the summer of 1989. Remember still operates in Plaka with the most outstanding leftovers from this era. Almost a year ago I was walking in Plaka and I was very happy to discover that I could find shoes and clothes from the upcoming Dior Homme, Balenciaga, Bernard Wilhelm and Rick Owens catwalks but 20 times cheaper and more original. The hyper-social owner Dimitris Tsouanatos is really the athenian encyclopedia of the 80's so if you still think that Athens sucks on shopping, Remember to visit Remember!

General Idea was a collective of three Canadian artists, Felix Partz, Jorge Zontal and AA Bronson, who were active from 1969 to 1994. Pioneers of conceptual and media-based art in Canada. Both Partz and Zontal died of AIDS in 1994. Bronson continues to work and exhibit as an independent artist, and has placed General Idea's archive at the Library of the National Gallery of Canada. A celebrity without a face

Mr Ass with Choe Sevigny

with Boy George

Mr Ass is the latest cool night-life persona in the Big Apple. He usually wears nothing on the ass area and he usually "hosts" on his tender buttocks the eternal night life New Yorkers, thus Amanda Lepore and Boy George to Chloe Sevigny and Sophia Lamar. All this is documented endlessly in an blog here.

Militant carpets

A small & beautiful carpet from the huge & eerie installation of artist Christoph Buchel called Simply Botiful at Hauser & Wirth Gallery in London. This kind of carpets are made in Afghanistan. They usually depict symbols of wars between Afganistan and it's neighbours. I have written previously about these amazing carpets when I found some russian-afgani war era ones in a vintage store . Alan Fletcher at the Design Museum

Yesterday I took a stroll on the south bank and I first went to the Design Museum to see the exhibition of Alan Fletcher -one of the most influential figures in British graphic design. Alan Fletcher co-founded Fletcher/Forbes/Gill in the 1960s and Pentagram in the 1970s. He created iconic brand identities for clients such as Pirelli and the V&A and transformed book design in his role as consultant art editor to Phaidon Press with his spirited, witty and very personal style. Alan Fletcher died on 21st of September 2006. He donated his archive to the museum and before his death he was very much involved in the planning of this retrospective exhibition.

Tobias Bernstrup in Shanghai

If you happen to be Shanghai, China check out the solo show of Tobias Bernstrup at the Duolun Museum of Modern Art. In his work Tobias is using the visual language of pop culture, video games, Sci-fi, classicism and gothic noir, he has created his own unmistakable stage persona with gender-crossing live performances dressed in elaborate costumes of shiny rubber and heavy make up. In this show creates a thrilling story of two giant praying mantises duking it out over the Oriental Pearl and Jin Mao towers. Check his website here

what is RSS?

Have you seen this icon above somewhere or the word RSS? Some friends has asked me to explain them what is RSS and how this can work. So I am posting today some information and some instructions about this very important feature. RSS is a simple system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites. For example: want to know when your favourite blogs have new posts without visiting every little while? With the help of Bloglines (www.bloglines.com) you 1. simply make an account 2. check on your favourite blog if there is RSS > clicking on this you get an address (which is something like www.youclickedthis.com/atom.xml ) 3. Copy this address and paste where it says "search for feeds" on the Bloglines page. 4. The results page brings up the blog , and click on the" subscribe to this blog". 5. Download also the notifier from the Bloglines as well so whenever new posts are published a small icon notifies you on the bottom-right side of your screen. Make sure you put blogs that are not constantly updated because it will be very distracting.

Fantastic Planet

It is so difficult to concentrate on work while browsing YouTube. Few minutes ago I found these amazing videos from an animated science fiction film called Fantastic Planet (the English title of La Planète sauvage - literally "The Savage Planet"). This 1973 film is directed by René Laloux. The film was an international production between France and Czechoslovakia. It won the special jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973. The film depicts a future in which human beings, known as "Oms" have been brought by the giant Draags to the Draags' home planet, where they are kept as pets (with collars). The Draags are an alien race which is humanoid in shape but ten times larger than humans, with blue skin, fanlike earlobes and huge, protruding eyes which they theat Oms like pets if domesticated , unless they are been exterminated... check more here

The new A issue: Jun Takahashi

The new issue of A magazine is curated by Undercover's Jun Takahashi. The magazine includes an extensive look on his tokyo lab, his stuffed dolls and statues, his designed furniture, his drawings and of course his fashion. There are also some interviews. Here is an extract from his interview to Terry Jones about his last collection:" My first idea was to use just one fabric and one color on the wholebody (wrapped faces too). I thought it would be beautiful, attractive in a way. I am realising recently that people say it's dark, but for me it's beautiful [..]It's romantic, beautiful and also ugly in a way sometimes and all these kind of feelings are finally beautiful in a way." Check his last collection on Style.com here

Neen Poetry by Nikola Tosic

Nikola Tosic is a fellow artist, writer and a poet. He lives between Belgrade and Cape Town, sometimes as a spoiled brat and sometimes as a disciplined triathlon athlete. I consider his writings are very Neen. Last week in Amsterdam he read his last poems. I publish some of them here which the 2 of them were written and improvised while we were chatting on Skype a day so I am just pasting from the chat history (btw bless you Skype!) His site
