Art on Islands

Isola Madre

Just came back from a lovely weekend on the island of Hydra. Apart from being a beautiful island Hydra is always a friendly place for contemporary art. This time Adelina Von Furstenberg (a frequent visitor of Hydra) showed me one exhibition that she curated on another island called Isola Madre on Lake Maggiore. Isola Madre (Mother Island) has a botanical Garden where from the beginning of the 18th century they have been cultivated exotic species coming from all over the world. One of the pieces I liked of the show is Robert Wilson's Untitled sculpture. I attach 2 photos of it. One before a lightning that stroke the tree behind it and one photo after it.

Tonight the Grande Promenade

The Grande Promenade will start from Dionisiou Aeropagitou st. at 8pm (near the under-construction museum of Acropolis) then around 9 the procession will head towards the Neen Plateau and the artworks along the Dionisiou Aeropagitou street. Also Andreas' "Walking Building" video will be projected on the big facade of the FIX building on the Syngrou side after 9. Another promenade happened yesterday when the museum organised a day-trip to Hydra for all the participating artists. On Hydra we saw the new exhibition at the old school called POSTER organized and curated by Dimitrios Antonitsis. I will include in another post my highlights from the show. I will be again there next week.

Neen Plateau under construction

The Thiseio square is under a small Neen makeover. Andreas, Miltos and I are doing 3 different works that will be called the Neen Plateau. Andreas's piece is the Philosophy hut, Miltos' is the Neen baptism (a hired baptist will give everyday a Neen "purification") and my piece, a website called TalkingAndWalking.com where at the Thiseio square a road sign will remind us it's "natural" space.

I went to the Devendra Banhart concert few hours ago here in Athens. Even with Antony and the Johnsons at the same time playing somewhere else, a lot of people showed up. Devendra was high with lots of good attitude. I attach some photos. I will post some videos on YouTube.com later today, gotta go to prepare the Neen Demo at the Benaki museum.

The Plastics

Mai's new friend in Tokyo is a Japanse pop star from the '80. Neenstar before NEEN they were singing about copy in '79. This band is called Plastics. The group was quite fashion oriented, and had something of a performance art style to them. Their first single “Copy/Robot” (1979) used a spelling machine toy. Check the video above via YouTube
